January 2021

Klaviyo Family,

By now you are likely aware of the protests and violence today in Washington DC. The occupation of Congress exposes how fractured our nation has become by hatred. The Cambridge English Dictionary defines terrorism as "a violent act for political purposes" - and that's what we saw today at the US Capital, a terriost act. News of this violence can be terrifying and isolating, especially in a time when it can be so hard to feel connected. If you are feeling scared and upset, you are not alone.

Today is a reminder that we can never take our freedoms and our democracy for granted. What can we do in the face of this blatant violation? We can take the time to cherish our loved ones and friends - spreading love to those in our lives is the first step to combating hate. We can be active champions of truth, justice and equality.  We can turn our scope outwards by standing up to those who enable bigotry and hatred.

There are deep injustices in this world.  We are privileged to work at Klaviyo, where we help our customers do great things, and also privileged to stand together in the face of inequality to make the world a better place. We are strong when we are united, and we are not alone. This will be one of the largest challenges of our time, and we are glad to know that there are wonderful people like you marching with us.

Here at Klaviyo we are going to keep talking about equality and discrimation even if it's uncomfortable - solving big problems means addressing challenges head on.  We have to keep listening, sharing and learning to build empathy for each other.  And we're going to lead by example in how we build our company and work for change in our communities.

For support, please connect with your peers, your manager and anyone on the leadership team to talk. Klaviyo has extensive mental health resources if you are feeling unsafe or unsettled.  And please continue to care for yourselves, families and one another in this very challenging time.

Here for you always,

Klaviyo Leadership Team
